I love teaching at St. Theresa’s. I am able to share my faith with students and staff every day. St. Theresa’s has always felt like a family. When you walk through the doors, you are embraced by a community of people who will be there to support you through anything. We pray, learn, laugh, cry, and have fun together. In Kindergarten, we establish friendships, foster independence and achieve academic success. I strive to provide a safe, nurturing environment and seek to establish a foundation for lifelong learning.
I have taught at St. Theresa Catholic School for 30 years. I started the Pre-K program and have taught Kindergarten for 22 years. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Special Education. I also have my Pre-K –Kindergarten Endorsement from Iowa State. I enjoy working with parents and families to provide a successful school experience.
I was born in the great baseball town of Norway, IA. From a young age, I was greatly influenced by my grandmother, a teacher and catechist, to go into teaching. I graduated from Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids in 1989 with a major in Elementary Education, a minor in Art and an endorsement in Reading. My first teaching job was at First Grade at St. John’s in Bancroft. I taught there for six years and also met my husband Don during that time. In 1995 and 1996, I taught First Grade at St. Patrick’s in Perry. I also got married and moved to West Des Moines. In 1997, I began teaching Kindergarten at St. Theresa’s. After three years of Kindergarten, I decided to work part-time in the fall of 2000. For the next 15 years, I served STCS as the Reading Resource teacher, providing supplemental support for students and teachers so that all of our students would be successful. In 2015, I decided to head back to the classroom full-time and began my great adventure back into Kindergarten!! There are many things that have changed, but the enthusiasm and love for learning that the little people have is still the same!!
All three of my children attended St. Theresa’s School and have many great memories of their time here. My oldest, Brooklyn, is now 19 and in Design School at Iowa State University. My son, Wade, 17, is a senior at Dowling and my youngest, Ava, 15, is a freshman. I keep busy with their many school and sporting activities. When I have some free time, I enjoy reading, scrapbooking about my family or just spending time with family and friends.
