Elaine Oursler Pre K-5th grade and Liturgical Music
It was my first day at STCS that I realized that I was at the right place. When Mark Gisler tried my room door key he exclaimed, “Hallelujah!!” How wonderful to be at a school where I can share my love of music and my love of God together….where worship is key to the music curriculum…..and Christ is the center of our hearts and minds and purpose.
My first degree was a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Webster University in St. Louis. I had begun to study voice with Carole Gaspar during high school and was fortunate to continue studying with her during the college years also. I sang in four operas with the St. Louis Opera Theater and held a position as a paid singer at Centenary Methodist Church.
After college, I married my high school sweetheart and was blessed to stay at home raising our five children. Those years were filled with homeschooling, directing children’s choirs – vocal and chime choirs, and a youth handbell choir, and playing in adult handbell choirs.
Recently I returned to school at Grandview University to gain the education credits needed to teach school. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education, and have continued to take classes each summer at the Drake Summer Music Institute. These intense classes always fill me with new and exciting ideas, songs, and techniques to share with my students.
