An Advent project through Prison Fellowship
Since 1994, the “Angel Tree” has been a project that St Theresa Church has been a participating congregation. Prison Ministries, a non-denominational ministry, contacts imprisoned parents with children. Prison Ministries passes the necessary information on each child to sponsoring churches.
An announcement and explanation of the project are placed in St. Theresa’s church bulletin two weeks prior to the Angel Tree. The weekend of the Angel Tree, a small Christmas tree is placed in front of the altar. Hanging from the tree are small paper angels with a child’s name, age, gender, and gift suggestions. Parishioners take the tags with the promise to provide a gift for that child. Each child is represented with two tags-one for a toy or game and the other for clothing. The gifts are wrapped and labeled and brought to the church altar the following weekend. St Theresa volunteers sort and verify all gifts have been received. Several people volunteer to help with delivery.
Approximately 100 children are ministered to each year, thanks to the generosity and support of almost 100 parish families.
