Elliott Family Recognized as December 2019 Iowa Family of the Month by the National Organization
The Council received word that The Randy and Renee Elliott Family of St. Theresa have been selected at the Family of the Month for the State of Iowa for December 2019. The Elliott’s and their two daughters, Olivia and Chloe, were nominated by the Council at the December meeting because of their hard work at St. Theresa Catholic School. Along with the national recognition, the family will receive a Holy Family icon for their home! Congratulations and thanks to the Elliott’s for all they do for our parish school.
State Secretary Awards Columbian Award to Council 5389
Steve Vonnahme, State Secretary for the Iowa Knights of Columbus attended the January 2020 monthly meeting to present the Columbian Award for the council’s efforts in 2019-20 to fulfill the many requirements for the Faith in Action Programs necessary for the award.
During the past year, the council continued many traditions including ongoing support for vocations, and our parish school and youth ministry programs, but also support for non-profit organizations like Birthright, Gigi’s Playhouse, Easter Seals of Iowa, Special Olympics, Iowa Catholic Radio, and InnerVisions. The council also supported national and international efforts including support for Meals from the Heartland a nonprofit located in West Des Moines packaging meals for the homeless in this country and around the world and funding for Christian refugees returning to Iraq to rebuild their lives and homes following displacement by the terror group, ISIS.
Charitable Support in 2019-20
November 2019
We awarded $655 to the St. Theresa Youth Ministry Program for yearly programming.
December 2019
We awarded $2,021 to GiGi’s Playhouse, $2,021 to Easter Seals of Iowa, and more than $400 to Special Olympics Iowa, based on loose change collected during the summer and fall Tootsie Roll Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities (PID).
January 2020
We awarded $770 to the installation of church pews at St. Theresa Parish’s sister church of the same patron saint in the village of Nyassivé, Togo West Africa. The funds were raised from the December 2019 pancake breakfast.
