STEM TEACHER/Math Interventionist

St. Theresa Catholic School is seeking a STEM teacherMath Interventionist.  We are seeking a candidate that has a strong education background, superior communication and collaboration skills with expertise background knowledge in math and science.  The teacher will deliver STEM oriented instruction using project-based learning to K-8 students, collaborate with classroom teachers to create STEM learning in classrooms and across the school environment.  When not teaching STEM, the teacher will work as a math interventionist providing push in and pull out services for students in K-8th grade.  Experience working with diverse student populations will be an asset to the position.  St. Theresa’s teachers participate in Professional Development, Professional Learning Communities and MTSS cycles. 

The teacher must possess a Iowa Teaching license or be able to obtain one.   Practicing Catholic preferred, but not required.

Job Description:

  • Establish lessons with clear goals based on standards from Iowa Core, National Science Standards, and the Des Moines Diocese.
  • Solid background knowledge in math and science.
  • Instruct classes using a variety of instructional techniques, instructions media, STEM kits, project based learning, and the use of performance assessments to monitor achievement of goals
  • Teach students to work collaboratively to solve problems, think critically, logically and creatively.  
  • Facilitate hands on experiments and projects that allow students to learn by doing and exploring
  • Coaches teachers on STEM initiatives and instructional best practices in STEM areas
  • Recognize the special needs of students with learning disabilities, seek assistance from classroom teachers, interventionists and administration as needed. 
  • Execute classroom management strategies that support a positive learning environment
  • Build effective relationships with students, parents and colleagues
  • Participate in professional development to stay current-building level, diocesan level and and conference or workshops to stay current on STEM information
  • Apply for grants to acquire content area supplies
  • Initiates new programs that support the STEM vision
  • Share STEM events and activities through social media
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education
  • Licensure:  Iowa Teaching License or ability to obtain one prior to August 13, 2024
  • Practicing Catholic preferred but not required
  • Certifications (VIRTUS, First Aid, CPR, etc.) and other AEA trainings or willing to obtain
  • Strong social, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret written materials used to teach content.  Ability to write reports, grants and correspondence effectively.  Ability  to communicate effectively orally and with students, parents, administrator, and colleagues.
  • Mathematical Skills:  Ability to compute mathematical concepts to complete projects such as probability, statistics and geometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to situations.
  • Technology Skills:  Ability to use multiple types of technology to enhance student learning and instruction-computers, chromebooks, smart boards, coding devices and science tools.
  • Reasoning Ability: Problem solving with concrete variables.  Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data to draw conclusions.

Teacher Associate

Teacher Associates assist teachers and students in the classroom to provide the best education possible for all students, supporting a positive, faith-filled safe environment. While a Teacher Associate may be a licensed teacher, they do not have to be. They are adults who love children, like to assist students in learning and are willing to do multiple tasks during the school day, including but not limited to working with student groups and individual students, supervising lunch and recess, and participating in faith activities. A parent, a grandparent, a college student, or someone wanting to be more involved in education.

Job Duties

  • Works with students as directed by the teacher. 
  • Collaborates with the teacher in planning and maintaining a safe, clean, learning environment 
  • Assists the teacher in preparing materials and supplies in advance for activities. 
  • Works with the teacher to facilitate activities for all children both indoors and outdoors; including daily recess.
  • Assures the well- being and safety of the children in his/her care. 
  • Maintains a positive, calm attitude and a soft voice, and encourages this attitude from others
  • Performs other tasks deemed necessary by the teacher and/or school administration and may be assigned to classes based on enrollment and student need. 

Employment Requirements

  • Experience in school setting, childcare setting, and/or working with children preferred
  • State of Iowa Substitute License preferred but not required
  • Practicing Catholic preferred but not required
  • Certifications (VIRTUS, First Aid, CPR, etc.) and other AEA trainings or willing to obtain
  • Strong social, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Physical abilities
    • Lead activities, including physical activities
    • May require lifting up to (but not limited to) 15 lbs
    • Cleaning, which may require bending over or pushing objects

Substitute Teacher

St. Theresa Catholic School is seeking substitute teachers to have as on-call subs.  Subs wanted for PK-8th grade teacher and associate positions.  Sub jobs may be full day or half day assignments. Some sub assignments may be multiple days.  

St. Theresa is a PK-8th GradeCatholic Elementary School located in Des Moines, Iowa with approximately 250 students.  Our average classroom size is 20-25 students of diverse students.
